U.S. stock indexes fell slightly in midday trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ are all off one-tenth of a percent.
European stocks ended mixed.
London's Financial Times index closed up one-half of one percent to end at 5,419. The CAC-40 in Paris advanced three-tenths of a percent to finish at 3,266. The DAX index in Frankfurt dropped nine-tenths of one percent to close at 5,731.
In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 1.2 percent to finish at 9,061.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index earned one-quarter of one percent to finish the day's trading at 20,585.
Gold is up $1.90 to trade at $1,827.45 an ounce.
The dollar is trading higher against both the yen and euro.
