Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost just over one and three-quarters percent to finish the day's trading at 20,213.

Share prices were higher in Manila, but lower in Shanghai, Wellington, Taipei, and Sydney.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.83 yen, a loss of one-tenth of a yen from Thursday.
