A Kurdish rebel group has proposed a cease-fire with Iran, saying it hopes the move would lead to a democratic solution to the conflict between the two sides.

The Party of Free Life of Kurdistan said in a statement on the its website that the cease-fire would go into effect Monday if Iran agrees, but warned that Tehran would be responsible for “upcoming events” if it rejects the measure.

Iran says it has killed at least 22 of the militant group's fighters since launching an offensive last week. Iran had suspended fighting against the group during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

PJAK has been involved in sporadic clashes with Iranian forces in recent years and says it is fighting for greater rights.
