Asian stock markets were sharply lower in trading Monday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped nearly two percent , to close at 8,784. India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a former politician who is a mining baron in India’s mineral-rich Karnataka state. Federal agents arrested G. Janardhana Reddy early Monday. Tokyo Stoks Plunge, Dollar Lower

Japanese share prices plunged Monday, while the dollar fell against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped nearly two percent , to close at 8,784. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.74 yen, down a fraction from late Friday. The Taipei market lost 2.65 percent , to finish at 7,552.
