Mexico’s state owned Pemex oil company says it is helping in the search for 10 contract workers who went missing in bad weather in the Gulf of Mexico.

The employees of U.S. based Geokinetics were conducting seismic studies for Pemex when they were forced to evacuate an oil rig damaged by Tropical Storm Nate on Thursday, off the Tabasco coast.

Pemex says the poor weather conditions created by Nate hampered efforts in locating the workers.

The search could get more complicated Friday when forecasters say Nate could become a hurricane.
