Colombian authorities have captured a woman suspected of detaining kidnap victims for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the country's largest guerrilla group.
Officials Monday said 41-year-old Margarita Cortez Calderon, known also as “La Mona,” who was on Interpol's wanted list, belonged to the FARC's 43rd Front and was arrested in the central state of Meta. They say one of her captives was Josue Daniel Calvo, a government soldier who was wounded and captured in combat. He was released last year after 11 months in captivity.
The rebels have been at war with the Colombian government since the 1960s. Colombia, the European Union and the United States have designated the FARC as a terrorist organization.
