The remains of hurricane Katia blew ashore in Wales, Scotland, and northeastern England Monday, bringing some of the worst weather in the region in 15 years. Forecasters are predicting heavy rain and wind gusts as high as 132 kilometers per hour.
At least one storm related death has been reported so far. A driver was killed when a tree fell on his car. Rescuers also had to pull an 11-year-old boy to safety when a garage roof collapsed around him.
Ferry service has been cancelled and officials have issued an “Amber Alert” — the Met Office's second highest warning. Authorities are urging coastal residents to watch out for floods and other weather-related hazards.
