Japanese markets closed lower Wednesday, while the U.S. dollar is trading slightly lower against the Japanese yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost one and one-tenth percent to finish at 8,519.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.88 yen, a loss of a fraction of a yen from Tuesday.

Gold is trading at $1,828.85 an ounce.
