Japanese markets closed lower Wednesday, while the U.S. dollar is trading slightly lower against the Japanese yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost one and one-tenth percent to finish at 8,519.

The dollar was selling at 76.90 yen, a loss of a fraction of a yen from Tuesday.

The Taipei market finished at 7,228, losing nearly two and one-quarter percent .
