U.S. stock indexes slid in early trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ are all down about two-tenths of one percent.
European stock prices moved higher in afternoon trading.
London's Financial Times index is up nine-tenths of a percent. The CAC-40 in Paris is ahead by six-tenths of a percent, while the DAX index in Frankfurt is up 1.8 percent.
Earlier, in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index lost 1.6 percent to finish at 8,721.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained one-half of one percent to finish the day's trading at 19,015.
Gold is trading up $7.30 at $1,786.15 an ounce.
The dollar is trading lower against the yen, but is up against the euro.
