Colombian oil workers have agreed to stop demonstrations that forced a Canadian company to shut down one quarter of Colombia's oil production.

Pacific Rubiales Energy Company and union officials announced the deal late Wednesday following a meeting with government representatives.

Toronto based Pacific says the protests forced it to stop pumping 225,000 barrels of oil per day from Columbia's largest oil fields.

Pacific expects to resume full operations in three to four days.

Oil workers clashed with police earlier this week during demonstrations for better pay and job security. They also demanded that laid off workers get their jobs back.
