Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has returned home after completing what he says is a final round of chemotherapy to treat his cancer.

President Chavez said after arriving from Cuba that the chemotherapy sessions have been successful and that he feels as if he has been “born again.”

Mr. Chavez underwent three rounds in Cuba and one round in Venezuela. The treatment followed surgery in Cuba in June for removal of a cancerous tumor from his pelvic area. The Venezuelan leader has not said what kind of cancer he has.

Mr. Chavez, who is 57, has said he expects to be fully recovered in order to serve as host of a regional summit taking place in Caracas December 2. The president also has said previously that he will be fit and ready to run for re-election next year. He has been in power since 1999 and is seeking another six-year term.

The election is scheduled for October 7, 2012.
