NATO says a combined Afghan-coalition security force killed six insurgents during a security operation in the north, while one of its service members died during a clash with insurgents in the south.

A NATO statement said that among the six insurgents killed in Chahar Bolak district in Balkh province was a Taliban leader, responsible for attacks on aircraft in the region. The statement said that the joint force also detained three suspected insurgents and confiscated multiple weapons during the operation.

In southern Kandahar province, a combined security force discovered more than three tons of hashish. The drugs were seized and will be destroyed at a later date.

Also in the south, one coalition soldier died during an insurgent attack Saturday. No further details were released.
