Afghan officials say more than 340 rockets have been fired into the country in recent days from Pakistan.

Authorities say the assault on Afghanistan's Kunar province has destroyed six houses, two mosques, and has displaced at least 50 families. They did not say who they believed was was responsible for the rocket fire, but urged Pakistani officials to prevent further incidents.

Cross-border shelling incidents frequently cause tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The border area between the two countries is seen as highly dangerous and a sanctuary for militants who launch attacks in Afghanistan.
