A Kenyan runner has set a new world marathon record.
Patrick Makau won the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, running the 42.2 kilometers in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 38 seconds.
Makau's time is 21 seconds better than the previous record, set in Berlin three years ago by Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie.
The 26-year-old Makau also won last year's Berlin Marathon.
Gebrselassie ran in Sunday's race and kept pace with Makau until 27 kilometers but was unable to finish.
Kenyan men finished with the top three positions in the race, run in sunny, mild conditions.
Kenya's Florence Kiplagat won the women's race with a time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 44 seconds.
