European Markets Higher at Midday

European stock markets were higher in midday trading Monday.

London’s Financial Times 100 index was up half a percent , to 5,091. The CAC-40 in Paris rose 2.17 percent , to 2,871. And the DAX in Frankfurt gained 2.19 percent , at 5,310.

The S&P futures contract was up 13 points, indicating a higher opening for U.S. markets.

In Asia, Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped 2.17 percent , to close at 8,374.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 1.48 percent , to end at 17,408.

Gold was trading at $1,611.30 an ounce.

The U.S. dollar was lower against other major currencies.
