Japanese share prices ended lower Monday, while the dollar fell against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped 2.2 percent to close at 8,374.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.44 yen, down nearly two-tenths a of a yen from late Friday.

Gold was trading at $1,824.63 an ounce.
