US Markets Advance Monday

U.S. stock indexes advanced in Monday's trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.5 percent to close at 11,044. The S&P 500 jumped 2.3 percent to finish at 1,163 while the NASDAQ advanced 1.4 percent to end at 2,517.

European stock markets also closed higher.

London's Financial Times 100 index ended up half a percent at 5,089. The CAC-40 in Paris advanced 1.8 percent to end at 2,859. The DAX in Frankfurt finished up 2.9 percent at 5,346.

In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped 2.2 percent , to close at 8,374. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 1.5 percent , to end at 17,408.

The price of gold dropped more than $37 to trade at $1,619.50 an ounce.

The U.S. dollar was lower against the yen and the euro.
