Egyptian security officials say assailants have attacked a pipeline carrying gas into Israel and Jordan from the northern Sinai Peninsula.
Witnesses said three men in a small truck opened fire on the pipeline Tuesday near the city of el-Arish, followed by an explosion at the site. One person was injured.
The pipeline has been attacked multiple times since February, when former president Hosni Mubarak was toppled by a popular uprising.
Previous explosions closed the pipeline for weeks, but it was not immediately clear how Tuesday's attack would affect gas supplies.
