European Stocks Higher in Midday Trading

European stock prices are higher in midday trading Tuesday.

London’s Financial Times index is up more than two and one-half percent at 5,220. The CAC-40 in Paris is three and three-quarters percent higher at 2,966. And the DAX index in Frankfurt is up nearly three and three-quarters percent to 5,545.

In New York, the S&P futures contract is up nearly 17 points, indicating a higher opening for U.S. markets.

Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose nearly three percent to finish at 8,610.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index soared over four percent to finish the day’s trading at 18,131.

Gold is trading at $1,668.38 an ounce.

The dollar is mixed against other major currencies.
