Witnesses in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, say police have fired tear gas to break up protests against soaring inflation in the country.

The witnesses said around 300 people gathered Monday, shouting “no to high prices” in protests that lasted until late in the day. The demonstrators temporarily blocked traffic with burning tires.

Police said they contained a “limited” riot, and no one was hurt.

The protest follows a recent three-day boycott on buying meat that was also called in response to high prices.
