Hong Kong police have arrested a New Zealand man who fled the country after a bank mistakenly put millions of dollars into his account two years ago.

Police say Hui Gao was stopped as he tried to cross into Hong Kong from China. He appeared in a Hong Kong court Friday and was ordered held in custody until November 28.

Gao and his partner disappeared in 2009 after receiving a credit line worth $7.6 million, much more than their approved limit. Police say $5.3 million was transferred out of their account before the error was discovered.
