Rescuers trying to reach a downed plane in western Indonesia said Friday the fuselage is intact and a door is open, sparking hopes that there may be survivors.
Eighteen people were aboard the CASA 221 turboprop when the plane went down Thursday on Sumatra island after departing Medan city for the nearby province of Aceh.
Rescuers have been unable to reach the crash site because of rugged terrain and torrential rains.
There has been no sign of the 14 passengers, including four children and four crew members.
