Indonesian rescuers say all 18 people aboard a plane that crashed in Sumatra are dead.
The Spanish-designed CASA 221 turboprop was traveling from Medan city for the nearby province of Aceh on Sumatra island Thursday, when it sent out a distress signal and then disappeared from radar.
Hopes were raised that there might be survivors when rescuers spotted the wreckage from the air Friday and said the fuselage was intact and a door was open.
The rescue team said 14 the passengers and four crew members were still strapped in their seats. Four of the dead were children.
