Typhoon Nalgae slammed into the main Philippine island of Luzon Saturday, killing at least one person and adding to the suffering caused by an earlier typhoon.

Nalgae made landfall on Luzon's east coast Saturday morning, with sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour and dangerous gusts of up to 195 kilometers per hour.

Thousands of people were ordered to evacuate their homes before the storm hit, adding to the number of people still in shelters from Typhoon Nesat that hit Tuesday.

Philippine authorities have warned of flash floods and landslides.

Nalgae left the Philippines after several hours, heading toward the South China Sea. Chinese authorities say they expect it to make landfall in Guangxi province around Wednesday of next week.

Three people in Guangxi province were killed Saturday when their homes collapsed due to heavy rain from Typhoon Nesat. Five highways were cut off by flooding and cave-ins.

Last week, Nesat killed at least 50 people and left 31 other missing in the Philippines. The storm downed trees and caused huge waves that crashed over seawalls in Manila, flooding a hospital, several businesses and the U.S. embassy.

Heavy rains also caused widespread flooding that has yet to recede in some areas.
