Zimbabwe's 87-year-old President Robert Mugabe has brushed aside reports that he is in poor health.

State broadcaster ZBC says Mr. Mugabe flew back to Zimbabwe from Singapore Sunday. It says the president arrived “in a jovial mood” and said he spent time with his daughter Bona during the visit.

Earlier, a Zimbabwean newspaper said the trip was Mr. Mugabe's seventh visit to Asia for medical treatment this year.

A government spokesman said Mr. Mugabe was getting a check-up following an eye operation earlier this year.

Speculation on Mr. Mugabe's overall health has intensified with the release of U.S. diplomatic cables quoting an ally as saying in 2008 the president had prostate cancer. President Mugabe has not commented on the Wikileaks reports in the past, but he has rejected claims his health is failing.

Mr. Mugabe has been the leader of Zimbabwe since the country's independence in 1980. He now rules in a coalition government with rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
