Asian Markets Close Mostly Higher

Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Monday.

Tokyo markets were closed Monday for a national holiday.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose slightly to end at 17,711.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Taipei, Seoul, Sydney, Mumbai, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila. Markets closed lower in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Wellington.

The U.S. dollar was quoted at 76.61 yen, down a tenth of a yen from late Friday.

Gold was trading at $1,665.82 an ounce.
