Former Bosnian Serb army chief Ratko Mladic has been hospitalized with what doctors suspect is pneumonia. His lawyer made the announcement Tuesday.

Mladic is on trial for genocide and war crimes in the 1992-'95 war in Bosnia. He has been accused of crimes against humanity, including planning the death of 8,000 Muslim men and boys over a 6-day period in 1995.

Authorities located Mladic in May after his being on the run for 16 year.

A spokeswoman for the International Criminal tribunal says Mladic was transferred to their custody with a series of pre-existing health conditions.
