Iraqi officials say a series of bombings across the capital, Baghdad, has killed at least 23 people and wounded dozens more.

Authorities said the deadliest attacks Wednesday were suicide bombings that killed 17 people outside a police station in central Baghdad and another in the city's northern Hurriyah district.

A separate blast in Hurriyah killed one person and wounded 12 others, mostly soldiers.

In southern Baghdad, a car bomb killed three people, while in the western part of the city a roadside bomb killed two people and wounded five others.

The attacks follow a string of explosions Monday in the city that killed 10 people and wounded 19 others.

Violence in Iraq has fallen sharply since the height of sectarian fighting in 2006 and 2007, but bombings and shootings still occur regularly.
