Iran’s Secretive Quds Force Has Terror Links

Here is a timeline of major attacks allegedly supported through funds, arms or planning by Iran's Quds Force, the elite special operations unit of the Revolutionary Guards.

April 18, 1983: Suicide bombing of U.S. embassy bombing in Beirut, Lebanon, kills 63, including 17 Americans. U.S. blames militant group Hezbollah, funded by Iran and Syria, for the attack.

October 3, 1983: Suicide bombing at U.S. Marines headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon, kills 241 soldiers, sailors and Marines and wounds more than 100 others. A suicide truck bombing at a French military base in Beirut on the same day kills 58 soldiers. U.S. calls Marine headquarter bombing a Hezbollah terrorist attack on America that was supported by Syria and Iran. Hezbollah denies involvement in the attack.

December 12, 1983: A suicide blast at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait kills six and injures more than 80. Dawa group, which was backed by Iran, is suspected of the attack.

March 17, 1992: A truck laden with explosives targets the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, killing 29 people and wounding 241. Victims killed in the attack include four Israeli citizens and several children. The Argentine government expelled several Iranian officials working in Argentina for alleged involvement in the attack.

September 20, 1994: A bombing at a Jewish center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, kills 85 and wounds 300. The attack was the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentine history. Responsibility for the attack was attributed to Iran.

June 25, 1996: Bombing of Khobar Towers complex housing U.S. military personnel in Saudi Arabia kills 19 U.S. citizens and one Saudi. The attack injured 372. A jury in a U.S. federal court find 13 Hezbollah supporters in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and a member of Hezbollah in Lebanon responsible for this attack.

2007-present: The United States has accused the Quds force of aiding Shi'ite militant groups in Iraq that have carried out multiple attacks.

October 11, 2011: The U.S. accuses two Iranians, including one member of the Iranian Quds force, of conspiring to kill the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Adel al-Jubeir.
