Japanese share prices ended lower Friday, while the dollar was steady against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost nine-tenths of a percent , to close at 8,747.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.93 yen, unchanged from late Thursday.

Gold was trading at $1,677.23 an ounce.
