Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least four militants and wounded another in a tribal region near the border with Afghanistan.
Officials say the unmanned aircraft fired missiles at a compound in South Waziristan.
They say the strike targeted fighters loyal to Maulvi Nadir, a local Taliban commander responsible for cross-border attacks in Afghanistan.
Saturday's strike was the latest in a series of drone attacks targeting militants in the border areas. On Friday, a U.S. drone strike killed four militants near the town of Miran Shah in the North Waziristan tribal region.
The day before, a drone strike in the same region killed a ranking member of the militant Haqqani network.
U.S. officials have never publicly acknowledged the use of drone strikes inside Pakistan, but privately they have confirmed their existence to various news outlets. Pakistan has condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty, but the strikes are believed to be carried out with the help of Pakistani intelligence.
