Asian stock markets closed higher Monday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose 1.5 percent to close at 8,880. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index jumped 2 percent to end at 18,874. Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Wellington and Manila. Markets also closed up in Shanghai, Seoul, Sydney, Singapore and Bangkok. Mumbai stocks slipped. […]

Japanese share prices ended higher Monday, while the dollar gained against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose 1.5 percent to close at 8,880. The dollar was selling at 77.40 yen in currency trading, up two-tenths of a yen from late Friday. Gold was trading at $1,694.19 an ounce.
