US Stocks Slide In Monday’s Trading

U.S. stocks fell in Monday's trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 2.1 percent to close at 11,398. The S&P 500 slid 1.9 percent to end at 1,201. The NASDAQ fell 2 percent to finish at 2,615.

European stocks also were lower at the close. London's Financial Times 100 index slid a half-percent to finish at 5,437. The CAC 40 in Paris lost 1.6 percent to close at 3,166. The DAX in Frankfurt was off 1.8 percent to close at 5,859.

Earlier Monday in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index rose 1.5 percent to close at 8,880. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 2 percent to end at 18,874.

The price of gold lost more than $10 to trade at $1,670.80 an ounce.

The U.S. dollar was up against the euro but down against the yen.
