U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will lead a delegation to Saudi Arabia to offer condolences for the death of Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz.

President Barack Obama told Saudi King Abdullah of the visit during a telephone conversation Sunday. The president also offered his “personal condolences” to the king after his half-brother's death.

The White House said Mr. Obama praised Crown Prince Sultan's “many contributions,” including his role in building the “strong and enduring partnership” between the two countries.

The heir to the Saudi throne died Saturday in New York City, where he had gone for treatment of recurring medical problems.

Saudi officials have said the funeral will take place Tuesday in Riyadh.
