Swiss television is projecting that the far-right Swiss People's party will lose seats in Sunday's parliamentary election, but will still finish on top.
If the prediction holds up, it will be the first time in 20 years the party has failed to gain votes in an election.
Pre-election opinion polls had the fiercely anti-immigration party winning at least 30 percent of the vote. The surveys show many voters are concerned that immigrants are spoiling Swiss stability and national identity, even with a healthy economy and less than 3 percent unemployment.
The television projections also show success for the newly-founded Green Liberal Party, which comes at the expense of the more well-established Green Party. The Greens are projected to lose seats.
