U.S. stocks advanced in Monday's trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained nine-tenths of one percent to end at 11,914. The S&P 500 rose 1.3 percent to finish at 1,254 while the NASDAQ advanced 2.4 percent to hit 2,699.
European stocks closed higher. London's Financial Times 100 index advanced 1.1 percent to close at 5,548. The CAC-40 in Paris gained 1.6 percent to end at 3,220. The DAX in Frankfurt rose 1.4 percent to finish at 6,055.
Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index rose 1.9 percent to close at 8,844. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 4.1 percent to end at 18,772.
The price of gold rose more than $12 to trade at $1,653.97 an ounce.
The U.S. dollar was down against both the yen and euro.
