U.S. President Barack Obama says he is confident of a new plan by European leaders to address Europe’s debt crisis.

President Obama made the comment Thursday as he met with the Czech prime minister, Petr Necas, at the White House. Mr. Necas arrived in the United States from Brussels, where he was part of the negotiations on resolving the eurozone’s debt crisis.

Mr. Obama described the Czech Republic as one of the United States’ greatest allies. He expressed deep appreciation for its cooperation on security and non-security issues, noting its contribution to the NATO-led military coalition in Afghanistan.

Mr. Necas says the two nations will continue to work together on the process of transitioning full security control to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.
