Television singing star Charice Penpengco on Tuesday is mourning the death of her estranged father, who was fatally stabbed during a drunken street fight in the Philippines.
The singer, best known for her role on the hit American television show Glee, has posted a sorrowful message on the social networking site Twitter and announced she is withdrawing from an Asian concert tour.
Philippine police say 40-year-old Ricky Penpengco bumped into another man Monday while on a drinking spree in San Pedro township, located south of Manila. The two men had an altercation which ended with Penpengco being stabbed in the back with an ice pick.
A manhunt has been launched for his killer.
The elder Penpengco had been estranged from his 19-year-old daughter for several years. But the singer, who is on tour in Singapore, tweeted that she still loved him.
She said she is pulling out of the tour with hit-making U.S. songwriter and producer David Foster to join her family in the Philippines.
Charice Penpengco, who goes professionally by her first name, first gained attention with performances on talent shows in her native country and South Korea that were posted on YouTube.
The postings led to appearances on U.S.-based talk shows hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres, followed by her role on Glee.
