A Qantas Airways A380 superjumbo plane en route from Singapore to London landed safely in the United Arab Emirates early Friday after developing an engine problem.
A spokeswoman for the Australian carrier said the aircraft with 258 passengers on board was diverted to Dubai following “an issue” with one of the engines. The A380 planes are equipped with four Rolls Royce engines.
Last year, Qantas Airways grounded its entire fleet of Airbus 380 planes after one suffered a mid-air engine explosion.
Qantas and Rolls Royce said they identified the problem and rectified it.
