Afghan officials say a roadside bomb in Helmand province has killed the Garmser district police chief and two of his bodyguards.

Helmand is one of Afghanistan's most violent provinces and sits in the heart of the Taliban's traditional stronghold in the south.

Elsewhere, Afghan officials say a suicide attack in Baghlan province has wounded six police officers.
