Police in Australia have arrested three protesters of the “Occupy Melbourne” movement in a park in the center of the city of Melbourne.
Victoria state police arrived to the camp early Wednesday to enforce a city order for the demonstrators to remove their tents and tarpaulins. Demonstrators inspired by New York's “Occupy Wall Street'' movement have been camping in central Melbourne for at least two weeks to protest corporate greed and economic inequality.
Police arrived at the park late Tuesday and ordered occupants to pull down their temporary structures.
The city council said protesters can stay, but cannot erect any shelters.
Some protesters said the number of police officers was too large for a relatively small movement.
