A man angry about corruption slapped Indian Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday.
The attacker hit Pawar in the face while the minister was talking to reporters in New Delhi.
The man, identified as Harvinder Singh, was then pulled away by security, as he shouted slogans against corruption and rising food prices.
Television footage showed Singh brandishing a small knife. He was detained by police and Agriculture Minister Pawar was not hurt.
Singh also reportedly assaulted a former minister who was sentenced in a corruption case on November 20.
Other politicians have had shoes thrown at them.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other top officials strongly condemned Thursday's incident.
