Pakistani officials say NATO helicopters have attacked a military checkpoint in northwest Pakistan, killing eight troops and wounding at least four others.

A Pakistani military spokesman said the attack early Saturday in the Mohmand tribal area near the Afghan border was “unprovoked and indiscriminate.”
