Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office says he has undergone a successful operation for an intestinal problem.
A statement from the prime minister's office on Monday said he was in good condition after having had laparoscopic surgery on his digestive system on Saturday.
The statement was the first indication by the government that the 57-year-old Mr. Erdogan had undergone the minimally invasive surgery. It says he will rest before returning to work. There were no further details.
Mr. Erdogan has been in office since 2003. His Islamist-rooted AK Party won a landslide victory in June elections to begin a third term in office, after promising economic stability and more rights as demanded by the European Union.
