NATO has said three of its service members died in a bomb blast in eastern Afghanistan Saturday. The nationalities of the victims were not immediately released.
Also Saturday, NATO said a combined Afghan-coalition security force discovered a building laden with unstable explosives in eastern Ghazni province.
A NATO statement said the building, located in the vicinity of a mosque and a village, contained mines, four 20-kilogram roadside bombs, more than 10 kilograms of dynamite and other explosives and a significant amount of bomb-making material. The security force safely destroyed the building and detained multiple suspected insurgents.
In southern Kandahar province, a joint Afghan-NATO force captured a Taliban facilitator, who provided lethal aide to insurgents, including roadside bombs and munitions, and conducted deadly attacks against Afghan forces in the province.
In the Sabari district of eastern Khost province, a joint force encountered a Haqqani leader and another insurgent. Both were killed after displaying hostile intent toward the force. Five suspected insurgents were detained during the operation and multiple weapons were seized from the site.
