Former South African Police commissioner Jackie Selebi is expected to begin his 15 year jail sentence Monday after losing an appeal to overturn his corruption conviction.
Selebi was reported to have collapsed at his home Friday after learning that the Supreme Court of Appeals had upheld his conviction. He remains hospitalized for an undisclosed condition.
The Johannesburg court said there was no evidence to nullify the verdict that Selebi had taken money from a convicted drug trafficker .
Selebi, a one time president of the international police organization Interpol, was convicted last year of providing favors to the drug dealer in exchange for cash and gifts.
He has been free on bail pending the court's ruling.
