Assailants have thrown a hand grenade at a police station in the Afghan capital, Kabul, triggering an explosion and a gunbattle with police.
No one was injured in the attack Friday and reports say the assailants escaped capture.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban generally target military personnel or foreigners, such as in the attack on a convoy of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force vehicles in late October, killing 13.
Earlier this month, a suicide attack in Kabul killed 55 people as Shi'ite pilgrims gathered near a shrine to mark the holy day of Ashura. The Pakistan-based insurgent group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Alami claimed responsibility.
