Nigeria's Supreme Court has upheld President Goodluck Jonathan's election victory in April, rejecting challenges by the opposition who claimed the vote was marred by irregularities.

The high court issued its ruling Wednesday, nearly two months after a lower court dismissed a petition to overturn the election filed by the opposition Congress for Progressive Change.

Mr. Jonathan won the April 16 election with about 57 percent of the vote.

His closest rival, CPC candidate and former military ruler Muhammadu Buharu, received about 31 percent.
