Indian weather forecasters say a cyclone has hit the country's southeastern coast.

Cyclone Thane made landfall near the former French colonial town of Pondicherry Friday morning.

Officials say Thane has caused power outages and has uprooted trees.

The cyclone's winds are expected to reach up to at least 120 kilometers per hour before gradually decreasing.

Authorities say coastal villages were evacuated before Thane landed.
